Wireless bridges are designed to connect two separate locations and allow data to be transferred between the two locations. Think of it as replacing a Lan cable that had connected the two computers. These kits are only used for point to point communications. Contact tech support for equipment for point to multi-point applications. |

HD Communications Corp tech support is limited to setting up the antennas, cables, lighting arrestors, and the proper use and installation. Below are instructions on setting up the wireless bridges. We will only offer tech support on the radios if the radios were purchased from HD Communications Corp. |
Wireless Bridge WAP11 ver. 2.6 installation and setup:
Begin setup with each WAP11 ver. 2.6 at the same location.
Important Setup Note: Configuration must be done using a hub, or if connecting directly to a computer then you must use a crossover cable (supplied with HD19697, HD19900, HD20656). Configuration will not work on the second WAP11 ver. 2.6 if you are plugging it into a switch. Most switches retain the IP from the previous WAP11 in its switch table and will not allow you to switch it. After the WAP11’s are configured you may then plug them into a switch, hub, or directly to a computer via a crossover cable.
Connect one WAP11 ver. 2.6 to a hub (or, if connecting directly to a computer, then you must use a crossover cable) and begin by setting the IP address to 192.168.1.80 using the Setup Wizard; click "apply." Then exit the Setup Wizard. Open Netscape or Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.80 in the web browser field. This will open the web browser setup password screen. Leave the user name blank and type admin as the password. The web browser setup screen will now appear. Change "AP Mode" to "Wireless Bridge Mode." Write down the MAC address of this device, shown in the setup screen. You will need to put this address into the other WAP11 ver. 2.6 when you set up that WAP11 ver. 2.6. Now click the "advanced" tab located at the top.
Click the "wireless" tab. Select the "right antenna" under the antenna section, then click "apply."
Now disconnect the first WAP11 ver. 2.6 and connect the second WAP11 ver. 2.6. Set this IP address as 192.168.1.81. Then exit the Setup Wizard. Open Netscape or IE and type in 192.168.1.81. This will open the web browser setup password screen. Leave username blank and type "admin" as the password. The setup screen will now appear. Change "AP Mode" to "Wireless Bridge Mode" but this time you will put the MAC address you wrote down from the first WAP11 ver. 2.6 into the "Remote MAC Address" screen under the "Wireless Bridge Mode" field. Write down the MAC address of this WAP11 ver. 2.6, shown on the setup screen. You will need to enter this into the first WAP11 ver. 2.6 to complete the link.
Good news; you're almost there!
Now disconnect the second WAP11 ver. 2.6 and reconnect the first WAP11 ver. 2.6. Open Netscape or IE and type in 192.168.1.80. Put the MAC address from the second WAP11 ver. 2.6 (that you wrote down) into the "Remote MAC Address" screen under the "Wireless Bridge Mode" field. Both WAP11’s are ready to go.
At this point you will connect the antenna cable to the right-hand antenna port. The right antenna port is on the right when you are looking at the LEDs on the front panel of the WAP11. Remove the factory antenna and connect the cable to that port.
Mount the antenna in a location that will provide both antennas the best Line-Of-Sight. Make sure the antenna is pointed in the direction of the second location. All outdoor connections need to be covered with 3M (or equivalent) rubber sealing tape (available at most Home Depot or True Value stores in their electrical departments).
The correct order for installation is as follows; antenna, barrel adapter, lightning arrestor, 25 ft. cable, WAP11 ver. 2.6. Radio Shack sells ground wire which you will need to connect from the wiring on the lightning arrestor to the nearest ground.
Go to the second location. Mount the antenna so that it can see the first antenna (Line-Of-Sight). Attach the cable to the antenna and to the second WAP11 ver. 2.6 again, making sure it is connected to the right-hand port.
Good news, you are done. Your networks are connected.
FAQ:
Question: I try to surf the web from the remote location but it reports back that it can't find the web page. Why is that?
Answer: As with any network path you must specify the path to the ISP. Subnet mask, router address, router address, ect. Set up the computer you are at to access your outside ISP.
Question: How do I know if both the WAP11 ver. 2.6 radios are connected?
Answer: From the computer that the first WAP11 ver. 2.6 is connected to, under your system start button, click run. In the run field type ping -t 192.168.0.81; this will open a screen and send a signal to the second WAP11 ver. 2.6. If you see the 192.168.0.81 in the screen, you're connected.
Question: Do you have a wireless bridge for my 802.11B radios at 5 Ghz?
Answer: 802.11A is designed for in-building use for small rooms or office and has a very limited range. To create a wireless bridge from building to building you will need to convert from 802.11A to 802.11B to make the bridge and then convert back to 802.11A if you are running 802.11A in both buildings.
Question: I used the two IP addresses you recommended but I can not get the two networks to talk to each other.
Answer: Your network might not be set up to allow the IP addresses we suggested to be part of it. If the IP address of your current computer is, for instance, 192.180.1.21 try setting the WAP11 ver. 2.6 to 192.180.1.22 and 192.180.1.23.
